Maggie’s Centre @ St Barts

American architect Steven Holl has unveiled his Magies Centre for cancer patients in London, featuring a facade of translucent white glass dotted with coloured panels. Imagined by New York-based Holl as a “vessel within a vessel within a vessel”, the luminous Maggie’s Barts features a concrete frame, a layer of bamboo and a skin of matt glass. It is located at St Bartholomew’s Hospital to the northwest of the City of London – a facility that was founded in the 12th century, making it the oldest hospital in Britain.

We worked closely with Steven Holl architects their UK based architect JM Architects to develop the use of our bamboo for most of the interior fit-out. It was a long journey but the results speak for themselves and we are proud to have been involved in such an important building.
