The production process –
Stem to strip

The technique of splitting the bamboo stems into strips and then pressing these strips into panels has opened up wonderful opportunities to manufacture flooring, table tops, stairs, door panels and wall panels.

To make the strips, the wall of the bamboo stem is cut lengthways. The outer green skin of the bamboo strip is removed. The strips are treated against mould and insects. To obtain a darker caramel colour the bamboo is steamed for longer creating the sugars inside to burn and caramelise creating the colour. The strips are then kiln dried.

The strips are then connected in 5 different ways to make the various MOSO bamboo products.
